The European Union (EU) has called for restraint and adherence to international law amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran, warning against any attacks targeting civilian infrastructure.
Speaking at a press briefing, Anitta Hipper spokesperson for the European Commission on foreign affairs and security policy, emphasised that diplomacy remains the only viable path to resolving the crisis.
Hipper stressed that threats against critical civilian facilities are unacceptable and could trigger severe humanitarian consequences.
She noted that such actions risk worsening instability across the Middle East and beyond, particularly at a time when tensions are already high.
The EU reiterated its longstanding position that dialogue and peaceful engagement must take priority over military confrontation.
According to Hipper, all parties involved must respect international law and ensure the protection of civilians and essential infrastructure.
She added that compliance with international humanitarian law is critical to preventing further escalation.
The EU’s remarks come amid heightened concerns over the deteriorating situation between Washington and Tehran.
