Enugu LG elections: Ugwuanyi leads PDP campaign to Udi, Oji-River

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Friday led the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) local government elections campaign team to Oji-River and Udi local government areas of the state to solicit for votes ahead of the February 23 council elections, with party faithful pledging total and continuous support for his administration.

At Oji- River local government, former senator who represented Enugu West Senatorial District in the Second Republic, Hyde Onuaguluchi, thanked Ugwuanyi for the good works he has done and still doing in the state.
Onuaguluchi said Ugwuanyi is firmly in charge in the state. He added that he has “never believed, followed or trusted any other person other than Governor Ugwuanyi”

He said that Ugwuanyi’s good works, humility, penchant for peace and uncommon leadership qualities have already done the campaign for the PDP and its candidates in the state.

The former lawmaker said to Ugwuanyi, “You have saved a lot of souls in Enugu State. You have made people who are desperate to be accommodated, to be recognized, to be accepted, and to belong in the society.

“Gburugburu (Ugwuanyi) you were sent by God to deliver Enugu State; Gburugburu you are a gift of God to Enugu State.

“Gburugburu, I don’t listen, follow or trust any other person than you. God will bless you and continue to bless you in the Mighty Name of Jesus, Amen.”

Other stakeholders of the PDP, who spoke at the event were Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Manfred Nzekwe, Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu, member representing Oji River Constituency, Hon. Jeff Mbah,, the Chairman of Oji River LGA, Hon. Frank Udemezue, the State Secretary of the PDP, Cletus Akalusi.
They commended Ugwuanyi for being gender sensitive. They said six female aspirants were contesting for councillorship.
The stakeholders appealed to the people of the area to vote for the PDP. They assured Governor Ugwuanyi of their continuos loyalty to his administration.

They appreciated Ugwuanyi for the development projects his administration has executed in Oji River LGA, especially the 8.8km Akpugoeze Road that links various communities in Enugu and Anambra states, numerous healthcare facilities and school infrastructure, which they said have provided conducive learning environment for the students.

The Oji River stakeholders maintained that they are 100 percent behind Ugwuanyi, assuring him that PDP will win a landslide victory in the forthcoming Local Government elections as the party is the heartbeat of the council area.

Presenting the PDP flags to the Councillorship candidates of the party in Oji River LGA, the State Chairman of the Party, Hon. Augustine Nnamani, expressed joy over the large turnout of party faithful and supporters at the rally, adding that it was a testimony to the good works of Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration in the council area as well as acceptance of the party by the people.

Addressing the huge crowd, Gov. Ugwuanyi thanked them for their goodwill, support, prayers, solidarity and commitment to the PDP and his administration in Enugu State, promising that the Chairmanship candidate of the Party, Chinedu Onyeagba and his deputy, Sopuluibe Onyebuchi, if elected, will serve them with the fear of God, a commitment which they publicly accepted to adhere to.

The governor who urged the people of Oji River to come out en masse on February 23 to vote massively for PDP (Umbrella), expressed delight at the emergence of six females as Councillorship candidates of the party in the council area, embracing each of them.

The Deputy Governor of the State, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, a former House of Representatives member from Oji River LGA, Hon. K.G.B. Oguakwa and Rev. Oscar Egwuonwu were among the dignitaries at the event.

In an interview, a female Councillorship candidate,, Hon. Theresa Onyefuzili, from Oji-River Urban ward 3, thanked God for her emergency as a councillorship candidate. She also thanked Governor Ugwuanyi for his good governance and support.. She said out of twenty wards in Oji River, six wonen were going to contest for the Councillorship position.
She attributed her emergency to good character.
” For the fact that I am a good member of the PDP, with good character, very active , my people found me worthy and chose me to go and represent them. It is by the grace of God.
” I appeal to our supporters to come out and vote for us (the PDP candidates ) on February 23.”
Onyefuzili described her ward (Oji River Urban ward 3), as a ”special ward”.
“My ward is a special ward. We have the deaf, the dumb, people suffering from leprosy, poor people, people who need help.Today, they will give me the party flag, I will go for the election .

“By the grace of God when I win, I will write to Governmental and Non- Governmental Organizations for an assistance. Some children in my ward do not go to school because their parents are poor. I will get organizations to help them and get them back to school. I will also try and construct the road leading to the Leprosy centre, Oji River.”.

On her part, the founder of “Ebeano Women for Gburugburu”, Hon. Eunice Anayochukwu Ibekwe ( mama Gburugburu) commended Ugwuanyi’s infrastructural and other developments in Enugu state.
Hon. Ibekwe, who is a three-term councillor in Oji River, said she started playing politics over forty years ago. She advised Hon. Onyefuzili to follow her footstep and attract good things to her ward.

At the rally held at Udi local government area headquarters, Udi, former chairman of PDP , Enugu state chapter , Dr. Charles Egumgbe, lauded the leadership qualities of Governor Ugwuanyi.
Egumgbe, who was also former Commissioner for Water Resources ,as well as the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs
in Enugu state , urged the people of the area to continue to support Governor Ugwuanyi and his team. He assured that the people of Udi would vote for PDP in the February 23 local government elections in the state .

A former minister of Aviation and chairman , Enugu state College of Education Technical(ESCET), Ambassador Fidel Njeze in her Goodwill message, commended Governor Ugwuanyi for his good works in the state. She described Governor Ugwuanyi as a man of peace and humility. Njeze called for continuous support for the governor and sustenance of the already existing peace in the state.

Others who spoke at the event were the out- going chairman of Udi local government, Hon. Paschal Agu, Deputy Speakerr of the Enugu state House of Assembly and member representing Udi North state Constituency, Rt
Hon. Uche Ugwu, the Managing Director, Enugu State Housing Development Corporation , Chiemerie Agu, Engr. Osita Ngwu, Chinedu Ani ,the member representing Udi South Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chuka Eneh;
the Udi Local Government PDP Chairman, Hon. Okey Aneke, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Barr. Tahill Ochim, the Chancellor of Coal City University, Enugu, Sir Chinedu Ani and Engr. Osita Ngwu (RG).
and some other members of the PDP family.
They all commended Governor Ugwuanyi for his good works in the state and appealed to the people of Udi local government area to come out enmasse on February 23 and vote for the PDP’ s candidates.

The governor expressed gratitude to his predecessor , Sullivan Chime and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Jideofor Onyeama, who are both indigenes of Udi local government area.

He paid respect to greater leaders of Udi LGA of blessed memory, such as Igwe Onyeamaneke, the Ozor Aguneche Ibe, and Chief Elechi Onyia, for their contributions to the emancipation of Wawa people

Highlights of the occasion was the presentation of PDP flags to the Councillorship candidates by the State Chairman of PDP, Hon. Augustine Nnamani.
