The Enugu State Government has dismissed as false a viral post warning of a potential terrorist attack on the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), describing the information as fake and unfounded.

The statement, issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, said the post was created by criminal elements seeking to spread panic and confusion within the university community and the state at large.

“The viral post suggesting an imminent attack by terrorists and jihadists is a false alarm orchestrated by dislodged criminal elements to instill fear among residents and undermine government security efforts,” the statement read.

Dr. Agbo noted that similar false alarms had been circulated in the past concerning locations such as Holy Ghost area, Obollo Afor, Opi, Nsukka, Gariki, and Awgu, often using recycled videos presented as current incidents. Perpetrators in those cases were eventually identified and held accountable.

The government assured residents that Enugu’s security architecture remains robust and proactive, leveraging modern infrastructure, advanced technology, and trained personnel to protect lives and property. Authorities are working with security agencies to identify and apprehend those behind the latest false alarm.

The statement also urged the UNN community, residents of Nsukka, and all Enugu citizens to remain calm, continue their lawful activities, and trust that security in the state remains a top priority under the administration of Governor Peter Mbah.

“The state government continues to strengthen security operations, ensuring that lives and property are safeguarded at all times,” it added.
