Enugu State Police Commissioner, Ahmed Ammani, has directed strict enforcement of night hours restriction of movement for mini-buses and tricycles from 9p.m. to 6a.m. in the state.

The commissioner said that the new directive had become imperative in view of the flagrant violation of the existing order by some of the mini-bus and tricycle drivers.

This is contained in a statement on behalf of the commissioner by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Friday in Enugu.

The commissioner noted that the directive was meant to curtail reported cases of criminal activities perpetrated with the aid of mini-buses and tricycles in Enugu metropolis and its environs.

“The Command wishes to inform residents, particularly operators of mini-buses and tricycles that the order of the state government restricting the operational time of mini-buses and tricycles in Enugu metropolis from 9p.m. to 6a.m. is still in force.

“Consequently, I have directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical/Operational Commanders of the command to redouble their efforts and ensure the strict enforcement of the order in a professional manner.

“I have ordered them to ensure that violators are arrested, their mini-buses or tricycles impounded and prosecuted in the Special Court set up by the state government to handle cases of violation of the order,” he said.

The state police boss, however, appreciated many of the operators who had been obeying the restriction order since it was pronounced.

He cautioned those who had been deliberately violating the order and/or using the mini-buses and tricycles to perpetrate crimes during the restriction time, to turn a new leaf.

According to him, the police will, henceforth, deal decisively with violators of the order, including unrepentant criminals among them.

He further tasked the residents to remain steadfast, vigilant and promptly report violators of the order and acts of crime and criminality to the nearest police station.

“They can call the Command’s Control Room numbers: 08032003702, 08075390883 or 08086671202.

“They can also call the Police PRO on: 08099854883 or send emails to [email protected],” he said.
