Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has called on the people of the state to demonstrate an unwavering commitment toward promoting unity and love during and beyond the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Eno made the call at the Eket Christmas Festival held at the Sports Stadium in Eket Local Government Area (LGA) on Monday.

He was represented at the event by a former representative of Eket Federal Constituency, Mr Pat Ifon.

He said: “Today marks another extraordinary milestone in our journey of togetherness and celebration.

“I am honoured to address you as your governor in the spirit of unity and love that characterize this festive season.

“As we immerse ourselves in the joyous atmosphere of the Eket Christmas Festival, let us carry the spirit of unity and love beyond this moment.”

He expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Frank Archibong, “the visionary organizer behind this spectacular event.

“Your commitment to fostering unity and spreading love among our people is truly commendable.

“Your dedication to organizing the Eket Christmas Carols back-to-back for six successful seasons is a testament to your passion for our cultural heritage and the wellbeing of the people of Akwa Ibom.

“Let me also extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Chairman of the LGA, Mr Akaniyene Tommey,” the governor said.

He thanked Tommey for his tireless efforts in bringing peace to Eket and his innovative idea that birthed the Eket Christmas Village, saying the idea deserved special recognition.

Eno said that the Christmas Village had not only fostered unity but provided an enabling environment for the growth of small and medium enterprises, contributing to the economic development of our beloved state.

“As we bask in the glow of the enchanting memories of the recently concluded 16th edition of the Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols, we are reminded of the power of music and festivities in bringing people together,” he said.

According to him, Eket has not only maintained a standard of excellence but also embraced the values that make us uniquely Akwa Ibom.

“It is this steadfast commitment to our root that has allowed us to thrive as a people and state.

“Today, as we gather under the twinkling lights and festive decorations to celebrate the Eket Christmas Festival, let us reflect on the importance of unity in propelling Akwa Ibom towards greater heights of development.

“Our diversity is our strength, and it is only through a united front that we can overcome our challenges and pave the way for progress.

“Let it be a guiding light in our daily lives, inspiring us to work hand-in-hand for the betterment of our communities and progress of our beloved Akwa Ibom,” Eno said

Earlier, Archibong expressed gratitude to God for giving him the opportunity to sponsor the event.

“This event is a way to tell God thank you for his kindness and mercy,” he said.

In a remark, the Eket LGA chairman also thanked God for the success recorded at the festival.

Tommey commended the sponsor of the festival for his “act of goodwill.

“Everything we have succeeded to do, there is always a better version proceeding and I believe that the next edition will be better,” he said.
