The former Deputy Chairman of the House Committee of Sports, Gbenga Elegbeleye who was during the week appointed as the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) has declared that his main focus on the job is to take Nigerian sports to greater heights.
He stressed that, from his experience as a sports administrator, he is poised to turn around the fortune of Nigerian sports for the better.
Elegbeleye stated that, he has realised that working with all the stakeholders in sports would help him to reshape the country’s sports and return Nigeria to the glory days.
“It is not easy stepping into the shoes of two former Director Generals of the NSC, Dr. Amos Adamu and Chief Patrick Ekeji. During my days in the House Committee, I was able to work amicably with these two sports icons a situation which today makes the job a familiar terrain for me.
“With the support of the Sports Minister/Chairman, NSC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi and all stakeholders in Nigerian sports which also include the media, the sky is the limit.
”I have what it takes to do the job and I know I have people who will work with me to make things workout the way they should.
”I have the minister as well as other stakeholders to work with, which gives me the confidence that Nigerians would see positive changes in the country’s sports,” declared the former chairman, Ondo State chapter of the Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON).
”This is a call to duty for me but it is a duty for every stakeholder and all Nigerians. We must put in collective efforts to make sure that things go the way it should,” added the former Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Sports.
Speaking further, he said. ”Ever since my exit from the National Assembly. I have kept moving, following events and keeping my ears on the ground, with one aim, and that is to see Nigeria attain a top height in sports.”
Aside from others mentioned above, Elegbeleye had served in various capacities including, Ondo State Table Tennis Association, just as he had served in various committees, including the General Dominic Oneya-led Football Reforms Committee.
