Elections: Idanre monarch meets party leaders

The Owa of Idanre, Oba Fredrick Adegunle Aroloye, on Monday, met with the leaders of major political parties in the community, ahead of the approaching general elections and enjoined them to ensure that the existing peace in the community is maintained before, during and after the exercise.
The traditional ruler urged politicians in the locality to play the game according to its rule, urging them to also abstain from character assassination, politics of hatred and violence.
He advised them to go about their campaigns in a peaceful manner, stressing that the interest of the community must be paramount to all.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Social Democratic Party, Mr. Olonimoyo, said members of his party would adhere strictly to the rules of the game and do everything within its capacity to ensure that peace reigns.
The Lisa of Ofosu, Chief Olufisayo Olatunji, said all politicians should discourage their supporters from fanning the ember of violence in the community. He advised politicians in the area to live in peace with one another.
Olatunji, who is also a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the community, said his party demonstrated in previous elections that it is a peaceful party and will continue to work for the peace of the people in the community and the state at large.
In his submission, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Idanre, Chief Ojo Alalabiaye, said his party will abide by the peace accord and ensure that members of his party don’t go out of their way.
Chairman of Idanre Local Government, Mr. Jerome Odesanmi, thanked the monarch for organising the peace meeting and warned that law enforcement agents have been put on the alert to ensure that any group fanning the ember of violence is made to face the full wrath of the law.
Also speaking at the peace parley which held at the palace of the host Oba in Idanre, the Chief of Staff to Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, Dr. Kola Ademujimi, commended the traditional ruler for initiating the peace meeting.
He said government would ensure that the peace of the state is not compromised.
