The Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, has hosted members of his constituency and welcome them to the new year.

Afuye who hosted the five wards in his constituency distributed various food items to them and congratulated them for surviving the pandemic year of 2020.

In a statement signed on his behalf by his Special Adviser on Media, Akogun Tai Oguntayo, the Speaker noted that “it has taken the special grace of God to have survived the novel coronavirus in the year 2020.” He noted that many prominent personalities were sadly lost to the pandemic.

“Those of us who survived the deadly disease should consider ourselves lucky,” Afuye said, noting that “apart from the coronavirus, #EndSars struggle came in, paralysing business activities, yet Nigerians survived it. For this reason, we owe everything to God who protected us from all evils.”

He, therefore, urged the people to enter the new year with hope and determination for progress.

He advised that since the Covid-19 is still around and “as we’ve already entered the second phase of the pandemic, all the protocols should be observed more than before”.

Among the prominent leaders who were present at the get-together are; ward Chairmen and secretaries of Are/Araromi/Ayetoro ward, Ogbonjana ward, Ilapetu/Ijao ward and Edemo Ward. Speaking to journalists at the occasion, the Chairman of Ogbonjana ward, Mr Dele Olofinjana said; “we are proud of Rt Hon Funminiyi Afuye for not letting us down in the Assembly.

Commending the Speaker on the various bills passed in the House, the Chairman of Ilapetu/Ijao ward, Mr Afaleke noted that “the entire Ikere Ekiti people will never forget the bill for the establishment of the University of Education, Science and Technology in Ikere Ekiti and the renaming of the institution after the first Ekiti elected Governor, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua who is an indigene of Ikere Ekiti.

Afuye, while giving reasons for the success he achieved so far, attributed them to the enabling and cordial environment provided to the Sixth Assembly by the Governor of the State, Dr Kayode Fayemi.
He then urged Ekiti people to continue in the unalloyed support for the Governor and his government in his efforts to continue the delivery of the dividends of democracy.
