The Ekiti State Police Command has officially dismissed Sergeant Osayingbemi Temitope following his involvement in an incident associated with illicit drug use. The dismissal was confirmed by the state police spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, in a statement released on Friday.
The officer was captured in a viral video on May 9 at Ikole-Ekiti, displaying erratic behaviour allegedly due to consumption of illicit substances. The footage prompted immediate action by the police command.
According to SP Abutu, Temitope underwent medical and psychological evaluations as part of the internal disciplinary process. While the psychological assessment confirmed that he was emotionally stable, medical tests revealed traces of tobacco and amphetamines in his system. The officer reportedly admitted to using illicit drugs during subsequent inquiries.
Following the completion of internal disciplinary procedures, Temitope was found guilty of misconduct. The command recommended his dismissal, which was upheld and enacted immediately.
SP Abutu stressed that the Ekiti State Police Command remains committed to discipline and professionalism, warning that unprofessional behaviour or actions that tarnish the force’s image will not be tolerated. Commissioner of Police Falade Micheal reiterated the need for officers to uphold integrity, accountability, and professionalism in all duties.
