Less than a month to the governorship election in Ekiti State, a member of the House of Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Ebeneze Alagbada, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The election holds on July 14.
Alagbada, Deputy Majority Leader of the House, represents Ise-Orun, a major constituency in Ekiti South where the PDP candidate, Dr Olusola Eleka, hails from.
Alagbada said he took the decision after extensive consultation with his constituency.
The defection is coming on the heels of speculations that 20 PDP members of the Assembly are on their way to APC.
Alagbada said he left the party due to Governor Ayodele Fayose’s “chain of dishonest conducts”.
He said the governor harbours disdain for his followers, adding that the defeat of the PDP in the July election remains inevitable.
Alagbada also cited the manipulation of the PDP primary as one of the reasons he decided leave the party.
He declared: “Not only did he (Fayose) disdain them (aspirants) but worked ruthlessly to ensure their manipulation out as candidate of the PDP in preference for the Deputy Governor, Prof Kolapo Olusola Eleka, who was nowhere when we risked everything to ensure the victory of the governor both at the primary and general election”.
Alagbada  said further: “My constituency too who elected me into the House of Assembly are also aggrieved and have directed me to follow suit with my leaders.
“Consequently, in accordance with the directive of the good people of Ise/Orun Constituency of Ekiti State House of Assembly, I, hereby, resign as the Deputy Majority Leader of Ekiti State House of Assembly and my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party.”
