A member of the House of Representatives, APC-Ekiti Central Federal Constituency, Mr Opeyemi Bamidele, on Sunday renounced his membership of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.

Bamidele, a governorship aspirant, explained that he decided to quit the APC and join the Labour Party to realise his ambition.

He spoke at a news conference in Emure-Ekiti, shortly after visiting the home of his late associate, Mr Foluso Ogundare, who was killed last month by unknown gunmen

Bamidele, a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State, said that his resolve and that of his supporters to leave the APC was borne out of the lack of internal democracy in the party.

“I and my supporters are quitting the ranks of political desperadoes to embrace a new political order that will take Ekiti to new heights.

“Let it be known that as I am quitting their party today, I am also giving them quit notice in Government House; I am also giving quit notice to poverty and hunger in our land.’’

In its reaction on Sunday, the state chapter of the APC said: “We are comfortable at his exit.’’

The interim Chairman of the party, Chief Jide Awe, said that Bamidele was free to go.

“We can never feel his exit,’’ he said.

Awe said that it was now left for the constituency which Bamidele represented in the House of Representatives to be pro-active in its representation.
