Detectives are on the trail of gunmen who abducted the Enogie of Ukhiri, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, Enogie Godwin Aigbe Osayande, at the weekend.
The monarch, a retired Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), was abducted by five heavily-armed men who stormed his Ukhiri palace on Benin-Abraka road.
They shot sporadically into the air before abducting Osayande from his living room to an unknown destination.
A family source said “we have not been contacted for ransom”.
To remove any trace, the kidnappers, who stormed the palace with an unregistered car, completely burnt down their own car and left with the monarch’s Nissan Sunny car.
Osayande was sandwiched between two of them at the back of the car as they zoomed off through the Abraka road end towards Delta State, shooting in the process.
Osayande took over from his late father a few years ago on hereditary as Benin customs demand.
A police source declared that detectives have since moved into action to rescue the monarch.
