For allegedly sponsoring arsonists, the Edo State leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for the arrest of the chairman of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih.
The call was sequel to the demolition saga between the APC-led state government and the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
During the fracas, a bus belonging to the state government was torched.
State APC chairman, Anselm Ojezua, said the police should not show its bias in the fracas, “hence the arrest of the PDP chairman is necessary”.
“We are aware that the PDP chairman, Mr Dan Orbih, and some leaders of the party sponsored a faction of the Students Union Government to commit arson by setting fire to a property belonging to Edo State government.
“We are also aware of the plan by Mr Orbih and other leaders of the PDP to inject thugs into the ranks of the students of the University and unleash mayhem on unsuspecting members of the public and further commit heinous crimes all in the name of protest.
“We call on the Commissioner of Police, Edo State, to arrest and interrogate Mr. Orbih and other PDP leaders for sponsoring arson and stop their further plan to create mayhem in the state.
“Sad that in the name of politics, Mr Orbih has resorted to crude tactics and is planning to unleash PDP thugs on hapless people of the state.
“We call on the Commissioner of Police to act fast as the APC would not fold its hands and watch Dan Orbih and his thugs make the state ungovernable.”
