The Ebonyi State Police Command has expressed concern over the increasing number of homicide cases recorded across the state, describing the trend as alarming.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, the Commissioner of Police, Urunwa Okafor, condemned the rise in killings and called for urgent collective action.
Okafor described homicide as a serious crime that undermines the safety and stability of society, warning that such acts must be addressed decisively.
According to the police, four individuals have already been charged to court in March over alleged involvement in separate murder cases.
The suspects were identified as Onyebuchi Eze, Eze Nwuke, Odinaka Emmanuel Okoh, and Uchenna Ota.
The commissioner noted that the recent cases highlight a troubling pattern that requires increased vigilance from both law enforcement and residents.
She urged members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands and instead report disputes and criminal activities to the police.
Okafor emphasised that homicide remains a capital offence with severe legal consequences, adding that justice will be pursued in all cases.
She also reiterated her commitment to maintaining an open and accessible policing system, encouraging residents to come forward with complaints and useful information.
The police command assured the public that all reported cases would receive prompt attention as part of efforts to curb violent crime in the state.
