The Nigerian Army has formally retired 18 senior officers of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST) after completing 35 years of service.
The retirement ceremony, known as a pulling-out parade, was held in Benin City, Edo State, marking the end of a three-day conference focused on strengthening logistics support for military operations.
According to reports, the retiring officers include four Major Generals and 14 Brigadier Generals, who served in various operational and administrative capacities throughout their careers.
Speaking at the event, the Corps Commander, Maj.-Gen. Danjuma Shagaya, described the ceremony as a moment of honour and recognition for the officers’ dedication and service to the nation.
He noted that the retiring officers had contributed significantly to the effectiveness of the army, particularly in ensuring the smooth supply and transportation of resources for military operations.
Shagaya explained that the pulling-out parade is a long-standing military tradition designed to celebrate service, sacrifice, and commitment.
He also acknowledged the presence of senior military leaders and representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, who attended the event to honour the retirees.
On behalf of the retired officers, Maj.-Gen. Olaniyi Dare reflected on their decades of service, highlighting the critical role played by the Corps of Supply and Transport in supporting military missions.
He explained that the corps is responsible for providing logistics and operational support to troops across various theatres, both within Nigeria and in international peacekeeping missions.
Dare stated that despite their retirement, the officers remain committed to the values of the Nigerian Army and are willing to offer their expertise when needed.
He described the ceremony as a significant milestone that allowed the officers to reflect on years of dedication to national defence.
The retired general also paid tribute to their families, acknowledging the sacrifices made by loved ones who supported them throughout their military careers.
He noted that military service often involves long periods away from home and constant relocation, requiring patience and resilience from family members.
The ceremony highlighted the importance of experience and institutional memory in the military, as well as the continued contributions of retired officers to national development.
