Alhaji Ayinla Fasasi, affectionately known as Vasco Da Gama Baba Taju, has sadly passed away at the age of 90. He was the oldest member of the Ebenezer Obey International Brothers Band.

Vasco Da Gama was a significant source of support for Obey, dating back to their school days at Methodist School, Idogo. His pivotal role as school captain and his unwavering encouragement of Obey during his musical pursuits highlight their enduring friendship.

In Lagos, Vasco, along with fellow band members such as Samson Ogunlade, Gabriel Adedeji, Alhaji Mutiu Kekere, Giwa Ojo Arigidi, Oke Aminu, Israel Adio, and Monday John, who have since passed, played a crucial role in establishing Obey’s band. Vasco’s contributions included assisting in acquiring the band’s first drums.

His profound influence and mentorship, often referred to by Obey as “Alagba Vasco Da Gama,” will remain a cornerstone of the band’s history. Vasco Da Gama’s steadfast commitment and invaluable contributions will be remembered fondly.

May the soul of Alagba Vasco Da Gama Baba Taju rest in peace.
