The Super Eagles of Nigeria Thursday made progress in the Fifa World Rankings, moving up three places to 33 in the world and fourth in Africa.
Since moving up three places in May, the Super Eagles have been on a gradual free fall on the rankings table, slipping from 28th in the world in May, to 36th last month.
In June, Nigeria fell three places, in July a further four places. That downward spiral was slowed somewhat as they held steady on August, only to fall one place in September.
Africa’s top team remains Côte d’Ivoire, who moved up two places to 17 in the world.
They are followed by Ghana, who also moved up, but by a single place. Algeria dropped four places to 32, but still managed to hang on to their fourth place in Africa, just ahead of Nigeria.
Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying opponents Ethiopia, dropped two places to 95 in the world and 25th in Africa.
