In Benue State House of Assembly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has 15 members, the All Progressives Congress (APC), 14 members and the Labour Party (LP), one member.
But on Friday, the APC outsmarted the PDP by producing the speaker of the eighth Assembly in the person of Mr. Terkimbi Ikyange.
Ikyange (APC-Ushongo) polled 17 votes to defeat Mr Terkaa Ucha (PDP-Tiev), who scored 13 votes.
Before the election, there was tension in Makurdi, the state capital over allegation of monetary inducement and threat to life levelled against APC members by their PDP counterparts.
Also, Mr James Ejembi (PDP- Okpokwu) emerged Deputy Speaker with 16 votes against Mr Joseph Ojobo (PDP- Ogbadibo), who polled 14 votes.
The principal officers promised to serve with utmost humility and with the fear of God.
