Less than two months after they were installed on roads across the country, some criminally-minded residents of Enugu State have earned it a poor first by vandalizing road signages located along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Dual Carriageway.
The Route A3 signages had route distance and descriptions for Port-Harcourt-Aba-Umuahia-Okigwe-Enugu, Makurdi-Otukpo-Enugu and Aba- Umuahia- Okigwe, among others.

They are some of the signages being installed by the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, led by Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), to assist motorists on Nigerian highways.
Investigations have revealed that the affected structure include Signage 175+000 installed on April 4, 2019 in Ogbaku, Awgu Local Government Area and damaged on May 10, 2019, Signage 190+000 installed at Amoji Nenwe on April 23, 2019 but removed outrightly by vandals on May 14, 2019 and Signage 210+000 installed on April 23, 2019 at Ituku Ozalla but suffered outright removal on May 17, 2019.
Already, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has been notified of the criminal act while security agencies in the State such as the Department of Security Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) as well as the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Works, who also represents the Constituencies where the vandalism took place, have been alerted.
Efforts are also being made to sensitise the public via the local and national media on the need to protect public property.

It was not clear as at press time the actions to be taken by Ugwuanyi to secure the signage but unconfirmed reports revealed that Chairmen of local governments where the Signages were installed and security agencies would play a major role in tracking down the vandals and securing the facilities in Enugu which is one of the 36 states currently benefitting from the installation of the signages.
