A Delta State High Court sitting in Asaba on Monday remanded five police officers accused in connection with the alleged killing of Delta-born musician and delivery worker, Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as OG Millan.

The officers were arraigned before Justice Marshal Onome Umukoro of High Court 5 in a case marked THC/ASB/CR/M/66C/2026.

The defendants are Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) Usman Nuhu, Onoloko Dauroupamo, and Okoh Kelechi, as well as Inspectors Goodluck Kingsley and Omonigho Ahweyevu.

Justice Umukoro ordered that the officers be remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter until June 15 for fresh arraignment after a request was made for legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Journalists were not allowed access to the courtroom during the proceedings.

Speaking after the hearing, human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu described the arraignment as an important step toward securing justice for the deceased.

“Today, the officers, including the principal suspect, were finally brought before the court. The judge ordered that they remain in custody while the DPP reviews the case,” he said.

Gwamnishu expressed hope that the legal process would move swiftly so that a full trial could begin without delay.

He also disclosed that the deceased’s family had complained of not receiving the autopsy report or official updates on the progress of investigations. He further alleged that efforts were made to limit public access to the proceedings.

According to him, future court sessions may be conducted virtually, with the defendants appearing from the correctional facility while proceedings are monitored remotely.

The deceased’s cousin, Alex Emuobor, criticised what he described as poor communication from authorities handling the matter.

He said the family only learned of the court sitting through activists and unofficial sources after being advised earlier to contact the Commissioner of Police for information.

“We rushed to Asaba immediately after receiving the information, but by the time we arrived, the proceedings had already ended,” Emuobor said.

He appealed to the Delta State Ministry of Justice and other relevant agencies to ensure the family receives timely updates as the case progresses.

“Our only request is to be kept informed. We want to know what is happening in the case involving our late brother,” he added.

Similarly, the deceased’s elder brother, Victory Ogidi, lamented the lack of direct communication from authorities, saying the family had been forced to rely on social media and third-party sources for information.

“We lost our brother and should not have to depend on social media to understand developments in a case that directly affects our family,” he said.

He urged the state Attorney-General, Ministry of Justice and the Nigeria Police to maintain transparency and provide regular updates throughout the judicial process.

The case stems from the alleged extrajudicial killing of Ogidi on April 26 in Effurun, Delta State. The musician was reportedly intercepted by police officers while attempting to waybill a package allegedly containing a firearm and ammunition.

Public outrage followed the incident after a video allegedly showing the shooting circulated widely on social media.

The case continues to attract significant public attention, with rights groups, family members and concerned citizens demanding justice and accountability.
