The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled July 15 for the arraignment of Azania Omo-Agege, Interim President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), over alleged fraud involving more than N40 million.
Justice Mohammed Umar set the date after counsel to the Inspector-General of Police, Maryam Kalejaiye, requested an adjournment to allow the investigating team to produce Omo-Agege and his co-defendant, Sidali Efemana of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in court.
Neither Omo-Agege nor Efemana appeared during Wednesday’s hearing. The arraignment had previously been stalled on September 29, 2025, and March 20, 2025, due to the absence of the accused. Only Omo-Agege’s lawyer, Prof. J.E.O. Abugu, SAN, was present.
The five-count charge, filed by the I-G of Police under FHC/ABJ/CR/75/2025, alleges that Omo-Agege, Efemana, and a third suspect, Daniel Omughelli (currently at large), conspired in 2022 to commit criminal breach of trust, obtain money under false pretences, and issue dud cheques in violation of Section 97(1) of the Penal Code Act.
Justice Umar adjourned the matter to July 15 for the defendants to enter their plea, allowing the prosecution time to ensure the accused are available in court.
