The trial of former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and seven others over alleged misappropriation of public funds has been adjourned by the Kano State High Court until Oct. 14, 2026.

The case, involving charges of bribery, conspiracy, diversion, and misappropriation of billions of naira, suffered a delay during Wednesday’s proceedings.

Ganduje is standing trial alongside his wife, Hafsat Umar, and several co-defendants, including individuals and corporate entities such as Lamash Properties Ltd, Safari Textiles Ltd, and Lasage General Enterprises Ltd.

The defendants are facing an 11-count charge bordering on corruption-related offences allegedly committed during Ganduje’s tenure as governor.

At the resumed hearing, prosecution counsel, Mr Victor Oni, informed the court that the state was prepared to proceed but sought to amend its filings.

The prosecution applied to withdraw an earlier motion dated March 31, 2026, and replace it with a fresh application submitted on May 15, 2026.

Defence lawyers representing Ganduje, his wife, and other defendants raised no objections to the request.

However, counsel for the sixth defendant informed the court that a preliminary objection had been filed and requested that it be heard first.

Presiding judge, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, struck out the prosecution’s earlier motion and held that pending applications must be addressed before the case can proceed.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter to Oct. 14, 2026, for hearing of the preliminary objection filed by the sixth defendant.
