In what observers describe as a turning point for digital accountability in Nigeria, a Lagos Magistrate Court has remanded Oladimeji Hammed, known as “Immunizer,” over allegations of cyberbullying against Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, widow of late music star Mohbad.

The defendant was brought, on June 22, 2026, before the Samuel Ilori Magistrate Court in Ogba following his arrest. He faces multiple counts of alleged online defamation and harassment said to have subjected the complainant to public ridicule and hostility.

While the court granted bail, Hammed was ordered to remain in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until he meets strict conditions. These include presenting two credible sureties with bank balances of at least ₦700,000 each, including a state civil servant and a blood relative, alongside proof of tax compliance.

According to the prosecution, the defendant allegedly engaged in a pattern of harmful online conduct between February and March 2026. This included claims that Aloba intended to flee Nigeria, allegations of infidelity, and the spread of reports concerning the purported leak of her private images.

On March 14, he reportedly made additional disparaging remarks about her character. Prosecutors argued that these actions contributed to widespread public harassment, culminating in an alleged physical attack on the complainant on March 15.

The case has been adjourned for further proceedings.

The development is being closely watched as a practical demonstration of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act 2024. Section 24 of the law categorises cyberbullying under cyberstalking and prescribes penalties for the transmission of offensive or false digital communications.

Violators may face fines of up to ₦7 million or imprisonment of up to three years. For more serious offences involving threats or intimidation, penalties increase significantly, including prison terms of up to 10 years and fines reaching ₦25 million.

Additionally, the Act empowers courts to issue protection orders to prevent further harassment, with penalties for violations of such orders.
