A group of concerned citizens in Kano under the auspices of Kano Concerned Group (KCG) has condemned the recent siege to the residence of former chairman of Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, PCACC, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado.

In a statement by the chairman of the group, Alhaji Sani Umar Indabo, the group said, the use of police or other security agencies from any quarters to unconstitutionally lay siege to persons or families for no reason whatsoever is a dangerous path to the democratic rule and peace in the state.

Policemen stationed their vehicles near Muhuyi Magaji’s Yahaya Gusau Road residence, and laid ambush on him around 7pm on Sunday night and sporadic gunshots were heard afterwards before an unidentified car chase.

Lamenting further, the chairman of the group said no person or government should be above the law and there should be a constitutional method of getting people invited by security agencies, no matter the interest from the government.

“Muhuyi Magaji is a Nigerian with rights like every other Nigerian and we are not here to defend or protect him from any kind of police investigation or arrest but resorting to witch-hunt and assault on his family and his neighborhood is inhuman from any government or security agency”, he added.

On his part, the secretary of the group, Haruna Ibrahim, stated that the fact the government is using security agencies to assault citizens who have spoke against the affairs of the government clearly shows how democracy has deteriorated in Kano State.

“The man has been charged and summoned by the State Assembly and the case is still ongoing. So, what is the basis of having his family and neighborhood assaulted by security agencies?”, Ibrahim asked.
