Competitions: Ugwuanyi promotes principal, rewards pupils

Governor  Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has appreciated  students of some public primary and secondary schools in the state, who excelled in  the 2019 national educational competitions.
Also appreciated  was the principal of Model Secondary  School,  Nsukka, who was promoted from Grade level 16 to “Principal  Special  Grade  Level 17”.
Presenting the awards to the recipients on Wednesday, Ugwuanyi, who was represented by the  Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, expressed happiness  that  the recipients made the state proud and  that the state government would continue to reward excellence.

In her  words: “His Excellency, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is a lover of excellence and readily takes steps to demonstrate it’s uncommon appreciation of the efforts  and achievements  of anyone  or institution that brings glory  and good reputation  to the state through  the achievement of excellence  in good  endeavours.  
“It is in furtherance of this tradition that we have gathered here today to honour some of our young people and institutions that raise Enugu State flag high in national competitions recently.”

The recipients won prizes at the 2019 National Mathematics Competition,  2019 President’s Teachers and School Excellency Award  Bureau of Public Enterprises 2019 Essay Writing Competition  for Secondary School  Students  in Nigeria. 

Model Secondary School, Nsukka was rewarded for taking the fifth position  at the 2019 Presidential Teachers and Schools Excellency Award.
The state government donated  a brand new Hyundai H-1 bus for the school and the principal of the school, Mr Obi Ezugwuorie, was promoted to principal  special grade level 17.

Master Chukwuemeka Obi and Master Enebe Chimaobi, from Spring of Life International School, Enugu, were rewarded with the sum of N250,000 each and a laptop worth N150, 000 each. Obi and Chimaobi, took the first position at the 2019 National Mathematics Competition, for Primary School category.

Another recipient, Tochukwu Onyeze from Shalom Academy Nsukka and Odigbo Chukwuka of University Secondary School, Nsukka, came third at the National Mathematics Competition for Senior Secondary School category.
Onyeze from Shalom Academy, Nsukka and Chukwuka, from University Secondary School, Nsukka, were rewarded with N100,000 and a laptop, worth N150,000 each for their achievements

Miss Jane Onoh, from Girls Secondary School, Abakpa,Nike,Enugu was rewarded with a sum of  N250,000 and a Laptop, for taking first position at Bureau of Public Enterprises 2019 Easy Writing Competition.
The deputy governor noted that the achievement was made possible because of the peace and security abound in the state which brings conducive environment for teaching and learning.

Earlier, in an opening remark,  the Secretary to the State Government,  Professor Simon Ortuanya, who was represented by  the Commissioner for Education, Prof Uche Eze, said that the state was happy showcasing it’s real achievements in Education.
 The SSG said that the award came after due consideration by  the state government. ”This national achievement in Education, showed that His Excellency’s effort in Education sector, is yielding good result.”
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, the Principal of Model Secondary School, Nsukka, Mr Obi Ezugwuorie, thanked the state government for recognising their efforts.
Ezugwuorie said: “To whom much is given, much is expected so we have been encouraged to do more. On behalf of all the awardees, we promise to continue putting the state in fore front and to improve on our previous achievements”.
