The Cross River Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Mr Eka William, has died.
William was said to have died on Saturday night at a hospital in Abuja.
His death was announced by his brother, Nkang William, in a statement on Sunday.
He disclosed that the commissioner died suddenly.
Nkang, who did not disclose the cause of the commissioner’s death, expressed shock and disbelief over his demise.
He described Williams as not only a sibling, but also a companion and an important member of their family.
He said that his death had created a void that words could capture, adding that the family would continue to celebrate the life the commissioner lived and the people he impacted.
“Your name will not simply be remembered because you died; you will be remembered because you lived, and your life mattered,” he said.
Nkang prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased, and for God to give the family strength to bear the loss.
The commissioner’s death has elicited reactions from friends, associates, and political colleagues, with many expressing deep shock.
Michael Gabriel Jr., Executive Media Assistant to Sen. John Owan-Enoh, Minister of State for Industry, described the death as “heart breaking.”
Gabriel said Ikom, the commissioner’s home town, has lost “a dedicated public servant and a good man,” adding that Williams’ life of service, humility, and impact would remain in the hearts of those he touched.
Similarly, Pius Osang, a former Councillor representing Abo Ward in Boki Local Government Area, expressed disbelief over the death.
“I don’t understand, I was with him on Tuesday, I slept in his hotel,” Osang said, reflecting the shock that greeted the news.
The Director-General of Neighbour2Neighbour (N2N), Dr Bobby Ekpenyong, also described William’s death as shocking.
“We in the N2N community are shocked over the sudden death of one of us, Dr Eka Williams. We were with him on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at his hotel in Ikom,” Ekpenyong said.
He recalled that William attended the N2N inauguration of ward and polling-unit coordinators in Ikom and had pledged to support the group’s political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
“He even promised to work with the group to ensure total delivery of Tinubu and Otu in 2027. We will miss him sorely,” Ekpenyong said.
