A coalition of 20 civil society groups on Sunday in Abuja urged President Goodluck Jonathan to reconcile all aggrieved members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The coalition made its position known in a statement jointly signed by Messrs Mesele Joe, Chidi Nwabufo and Adamu Hussein.
It said the current crisis rocking the party needed “the quick and dynamic intervention’’ of Jonathan.
“The unfortunate crisis in PDP is capable of truncating our democracy in Nigeria, if it is not properly managed.
“We wish to advise all parties involved in the crisis that making preemptive statements amid reconciliation will jeopardise the reconciliatory process already initiated by some top leaders of the party.
“We call on the leadership of PDP to sheathe their swords in the interest of democracy,’’ the statement said.
The coalition says it has as its focus is the promotion as well as the advancement of democracy and good governance in the country.
It has among its members groups such as Conscience Nigeria, PAIN, Young Patriots, Centre for Democracy Advancement and Election Monitors.
