The Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Onireke, Lagos, on Saturday offered gift items and cash to some less privileged persons to aid them celebrate the forthcoming Christmas and New Year.
The gift items included small packs of rice, toiletries, clothes, medicals, confectioneries and soup condiments.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the beneficiaries, who cut across all denominations and faith, received the items with thanks.
Distributing the gift items and cash at the the church’s premises, the church’s Humanitarian Committee Chairman, Mr James Asusu, said that the church empathized with the less privileged this season.
Asusu said the scriptures admonished the faithful to cater for those that do not have in the society.
“In fulfillment of the divine injunction, the church is giving out its widow’s might to assuage the anxieties of people and to give them sense of belonging,” he said.
The church leader tasked the beneficiaries to dedicate their lives to the worship of God to gain salvation at the end.
He said that the Church would be ready to assist them in their challenges, but they should remain steadfast in kingdom (salvation) race.
Speaking, the Head of Items Distribution of the Church, Mrs Beatrice Umunname, said that the last phase of the material distribution for the year would be communicated to the public on the Christmas day.
