Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayo Fayose, has promised individuals and corporate bodies that his administration will issue them Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) in a record time if they pay the necessary dues and fees to the state government promptly.
He stated this in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday while signing the C of O for the parcel of land to be used by a private university in the state, City Model University, Iropora-Ekiti.
On the occasion, which took place at the Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti in the presence of the Oniropora of Iropora-Ekiti, Oba Joel Ajayi Olonibua, among other dignitaries, the governor said the step would help in accelerating economic activities and development of the state.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Idowu Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti, the governor said: “We are eager to develop our dear state and we will not spare any effort to encourage private sector participation. In that regard, we are encouraging those who need C of O for their businesses or premises speedy issuance of the certificate. I have shown interest in this project because it is about education, the major industry in our state. Having agreed to pay all the necessary fees and dues, I will sign the C of O.
“Anybody or group that wants to obtain the C of O will surely be encouraged. All necessary dues and fees must be paid within 14 days and that will encourage us too to quickly sign the document. We don’t want people to breach the law by not performing their civic duties of paying to the government necessary rates, taxes and fees.
“I charge the founders of the City Model University to move fast so that we will inaugurate the first phase of the project. By today’s signing of the C of O, I believe we have contributed our own quota to the quick approval of the institution by the relevant authorities. I know the Oniropora is anxious for the project to take off,” he said.
The Oniropora, Oba Olonibua, lauded the governor for the quick issuance of the document to the promoters of the proposed university.
“The signing of the document by the governor shows that he really loves Ekiti State and wants the best for the people. He is a lover of education. He demonstrated his good intention for the growth and development of Ekiti. He is truly a lover of Ekiti and education.
“No string was attached to the signing of the project and the governor is eager that the project takes off. The C of O is one of the things we will present to the National Universities Commission when they come to assess the preparations for the take-off of the project.
“This is fantastic and I call on everybody to support the government and our royal fathers should be receptive to the development of their communities too,” the monarch stated.
Oba Olonibua said he was not among the promoters of the institution, but took interest in it because of the good and great multiplier effects the school would have on his community and the state at large.
