Businessman in court for punching own mother in the eye over property

A businessman, Samson Sogunle, 32, who allegedly punched his mother in the eye, on Thursday appeared in a Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja, Lagos.

Sogunle, who resides at Abule Onigbagbo, GRA, Ikeja, is charged with assault but he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Christopher John, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 12, at his residence.

John alleged that the defendant punched and beat up Oluwayemisi during an argument.

He alleged that the defendant asked his mother to hand over his late father’s property to him and also ordered that she moves out of the house.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 173 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Chief Magistrate P.E. Nwaka admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Nwaka adjourned the case until March 10 for mention.
