Nigeria Police Force

Seven persons died and 50 were injured while celebrating the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, in Kano.
This was confirmed on Thursday by the state police command.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Magaji Musa Majia, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said those injured “were admitted immediately. Some of them with minor injuries have been treated and discharged”.
Immediately the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, announced Buhari as the winner of the March 28 election, hundreds of youths stormed Kano streets in wild jubilation, chanting “Sa’i Buhari, Sa’i Baba”.
“Some of those who died were crushed by vehicles and motorcycles due to reckless driving by some drivers who were also jubilating. We have commenced investigations into the incident. The state police command has, henceforth, stopped the syndrome of youths lawlessly storming the streets in the name of celebration. Also, parents should caution their wards to desist from such dangerous acts of storming streets in the name of celebrations,” he said.
