Bristow helicopter crash: AIB begins investigation as divers search for missing bodies

The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), on Wednesday, commenced investigation into the Bristow helicopter that crashed into the lagoon in Lagos.
This is just as local divers and fishermen in Oworonshoki started searching frantically for the two remaining passengers.
Freedom Online learned that the involvement of the fishermen “is more effective than anything government agencies can do in this matter because they (local divers) know the terrain more than any other person’, said a source.
The helicopter, with registration number 5N-BDG, crashed near the Third Mainland Bridge.
The AIB investigation was revealed in a statement by the bureau’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr Tunji Oketunbi, in Lagos.
AIB Commissioner, Dr Felix Abali, is leading the team.
It is believed that 12 people were on board.
At least, four persons were killed and six injured in the crash.
The incident happened about 3:30pm on Wednesday.
South-West Coordinator of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Dr Onimode Abdullahi, said the four bodies had been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital mortuary.
But the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr Michael Akindele, said the agency could not confirm the exact figure of the passengers.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Lagos State Command, DSP Patricia Amadin, said the helicopter plunged into the Lagoon, behind Oworonsoki Police Station.
