Boko Haram: Anglican Church talks tough

Angered by the deadly attacks on churches and Christians, especially in the North, the Anglican Church has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to halt the trend in the interest of peace in the country.
To the Akure, Ondo State Diocese of the church, such attacks by Boko Haram insurgents must be stopped immediately to avoid a total conflagration in the country.
The position was contained in a communiqué after the 11th Synod of the church held in Ijare, Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.
It was signed by the Bishop of Akure Anglican Diocese, Revd Simeon Borokini, the Secretary, Venerable Solomon Amure and Chairman of the Communiqué Committee, Prof Sola Ibukun.
It said: “We bemoan the state of insecurity in the country that has led to Boko Haram menace, kidnapping, communal clashes, religious and political intolerance. The Federal Government must put in place proactive measures to secure the lives and properties of citizens in all parts of the country.
“The synod equally hoped that the federal government would emplace and enforce policies that would instil discipline and ensure order in every facet of the Nigerian society. In doing this, synod believes there should be no sacred cows.”
On the economy, it declared: “The government should ensure the effective management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, and review the composition of the Board of Directors of the corporation. The board should be headed by professionals and not politicians. The present wastage needs to be checked so as to improve accountability and optimize the economy.”
