A total of 156 Nigerian students have been recognised by Cambridge International Education (Cambridge University Press and Assessment) in collaboration with the British Council for exceptional performance in the 2025 examination series.
The award ceremony celebrated outstanding academic achievement across Nigeria and highlighted the global competitiveness of Nigerian learners.
The honoured students, drawn from 47 schools across Nigeria, excelled in the Cambridge IGCSE, O-Level, and AS & A-Level examinations.
Among them, 16 students received the prestigious “Top in the World” award, having achieved the highest marks globally in their respective subjects.
The awards were presented at the British Council Recognition and Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards ceremony held at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
In addition to global honours, Cambridge and the British Council recognised Nigerian learners across several categories, including:
- 77 Top in Nigeria awards
- 56 High Achievement awards
- 7 Best Across awards
The students were evaluated across 44 subjects in the June and November 2025 examination series.
The Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa at Cambridge International Education, Mr Juan Visser, praised the students for their dedication and academic excellence.
He said the awards were designed to celebrate learners whose performance stands out globally and reflects strong educational commitment.
According to him, Cambridge qualifications continue to provide students with pathways to top universities and career opportunities worldwide.
The Country Director of the British Council Nigeria, Mrs Donna McGowan, congratulated the awardees and acknowledged the support of teachers, parents, and school administrators.
She said the achievements reflect resilience, ambition, and strong educational partnerships that continue to shape future leaders in Nigeria.
The Director of Examinations at the British Council Nigeria, Mr Eyitayo Akanji, added that the success of Nigerian students demonstrates their ability to compete on a global academic stage.
He noted that over one million candidates worldwide participated in the same examination series.
One of the awardees, Miss Ifeoluwa Onafowokan of Greensprings School, Lagos, who emerged Top in Nigeria in Business Studies, dedicated her success to her teachers and parents.
She said consistent support and encouragement played a key role in her achievement.
Another awardee, Miss Memunat Salako, also from Greensprings School, was recognised for excellence in Biology and Chemistry.
She attributed her success to disciplined study habits, revision techniques, and strong teacher support.
Officials at the ceremony said the results reflect the growing strength of Nigeria’s education system, with students consistently achieving excellence in international examinations.
They encouraged continued investment in education to sustain global competitiveness among Nigerian learners.
