Bayelsa: APC behind abduction of Dickson’s sister, alleges PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Organisation in Bayelsa State has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of masterminding the kidnap of the younger sister of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson in Yenagoa, describing it as political.
The party warned the governor’s immediate family and relatives to be mindful of where they go and those they associate with because security reports have revealed that APC wants to carry out more kidnappings between now and the January 9 re-run election in the state.

The PDP condemned the abduction of Miss Teme Nancy Dickson on Saturday in Yenagoa in its entirety and recalled previous security reports of threats by the APC to kidnap close relations and aides of the Governor to unsettle and destabilize him, ahead of the governorship poll.

A statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Publicity in RCO, Mr. Jonathan Obuebite, said kidnapping, maiming of law abiding citizens and other acts of criminality, which are notable attributes of the APC governorship candidate (Timipre Sylva), have been on the rise, since after the botched governorship primaries of the APC in the State.”

The RCO therefore called on well-meaning Bayelsans and Nigerians to join in condemning the act, “as this brand of politics will not augur well for a country like Nigeria, which is still building its political institutions, so as to be counted as one of the leading democracies in the world.”

Obuebite said, “This is taking politics too far and it will not augur for our democracy and we are condemning it and we call on well meaning Bayelsans and Nigerians to speak up now and condemn it in all its ramifications.

“We are calling on the security agents to step efforts at ensuring the quick release of the Governor’s younger sister, as well as arrest and bring the perpetrators to book. We also used the opportunity to advise all close relations and aides of the Governor to be mindful of places they visit and persons they associate with, as it is part of the grand design of the APC to carry out more kidnappings between now and the January 9 re-run election in the State.”

According to him, the PDP will not allow itself to be intimidated, but will remain focused until it emerges victorious in the re-run election in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
