The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Command in Kano State, on Monday, confirmed that a local resident identified as Ladan  Zubairu, was killed by an unknown assailant on Monday at Yusuf Garko Mosque in Maraba Quarters, Kano.

This is contained in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa in Kano on Monday.

Kiyawa quoted eye witnesses as saying that the suspect was pursued by an angry mob and lynched.

He explained that the mob also set fire on the suspect’s residence.

He said that normalcy had been restored in the area and security personnel deployed to maintain law and order.

According to him, investigators recovered the victim’s throat from the suspect’s pocket, adding that both bodies were taken to Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, Kano, where they were confirmed dead and await autopsy.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim  Bakori, to have ordered a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with law‑enforcement agencies as investigation continues.

“Citizens with any information that will help in the course of investigation are urged to contact the nearest police station. All information will be treated confidentially,” he said.
