Arjen Robben out of season

Bayern Munich’s Champions League hopes suffered a major blow on Wednesday when it was confirmed star winger, Arjen Robben, will miss the rest of the season with a calf problem while striker, Robert Lewandowski, is also facing a spell on the sidelines.
Both players were injured during Bayern’s DFB-Pokal penalty shoot-out defeat to Borussia Dortmund, Robben limping off just 16 minutes into a comeback from an abdominal injury which kept him out for five weeks while Lewandowski sustained a broken jaw and nose after being clattered by visiting goalkeeper, Mitch Langerak.
Bayern boss, Pep Guardiola, confirmed after the final whistle that Robben had suffered a calf injury and his worst fears were confirmed, following the Dutchman’s visit to Dr Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt on Wednesday morning.
Lewandowski suffered his injury deep into extra-time when he was caught by Langerak’s hand in an aerial challenge.
He managed to complete the 120 minutes – Bayern had already used their three substitutions – but appeared groggy and played little part in the action. He was also not considered for the shoot-out which Dortmund won, following misses from Philipp Lahm, Xabi Alonso, Mario Gotze and Manuel Neuer.
He returned for further tests on Wednesday after which more bad news was delivered.
