The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos has commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for bringing back the monthly environmental sanitation programme in the state.

In a statement released on Monday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, described the decision as a proactive step aimed at improving environmental hygiene and protecting public health.

Oladejo said the policy demonstrates the administration’s commitment to maintaining a clean environment and encouraging residents to participate actively in keeping their communities safe and healthy.

He noted that Lagos, widely regarded as one of Africa’s fastest-growing megacities, requires consistent and collective action to maintain environmental sustainability.

According to him, the return of the sanitation exercise will help strengthen community involvement while addressing challenges such as improper waste disposal, blocked drainage systems and environmental pollution.

The APC spokesman explained that the monthly sanitation programme had historically played a key role in promoting a culture of cleanliness and civic responsibility among residents.

He added that reviving the initiative would also increase public awareness about proper waste management and environmental hygiene practices.

Oladejo therefore urged residents, community development associations, market groups, youth organisations and civil society groups across Lagos State to fully support the programme.

He stressed that environmental sustainability can only be achieved through collective responsibility and active participation from citizens.

The party expressed confidence that the initiative would contribute significantly to the ongoing efforts of the state government to transform Lagos into a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable urban centre.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Governor Sanwo-Olu officially announced the return of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise over the weekend.

The programme is expected to commence in April and will be held on the last Saturday of every month between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
