ANPP_logoThe Borno chapter of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) on Saturday condemned last week’s attack on the residence of its chairman in Maiduguri by suspected members of a vigilance group.

Youths suspected to be members of the vigilance group called “civilian JTF” on Monday attacked the residence of the ANNP chairman, alleging that he was aiding the Boko Haram sect.

But the party said in a statement signed by its Secretary, Alhaji Bakura Shettima, that the allegation was false.

“Our party Chairman, Alhaji Mala Othman, is an accomplished politician, who has the interest of the people and the development of the state at heart.

“Accusing him of such behaviour is witch hunting of which the people of Borno are not known for,” Shettima said.

He said the attempt to implicate the ANPP chairman in the activities of the Boko Haram sect was a contradiction of the basic facts.

“To put the records straight, we want to establish the fact that it is on record that 99 per cent of politicians killed since the Boko Haram insurgency began in the state are members of the ANPP.

“The party has put Borno on the path of unprecedented development under the able leadership of our chairman, Alhaji Mala Othman,” Shettima added.

Shettima appealed to the members of the group to be wary of some politicians who might want to use them for political gains.

“’We appeal to the youth volunteers to be careful not to take the law into their hands and be aware of politicians who might use them against their opponents to score cheap political goal,” he said.

Shettima called for investigation of the incident.
