Alleged shoddy job on Ibadan/Oyo/Ogbomoso road: EFCC may prosecute contractors

There are strong indications that the Federal Government may have summoned contractors who handled section 1 of the 52-kilometre Ibadan/Oyo/Ogbomoso road project to explain why they should not be prosecuted for an alleged shoddy job.
It was learned that contrary to an agreement between the
Federal Government and the contractors that the project from Ibadan/Oyo end would last for 15 years after completion, “it is not up to three years before the road started washing away”.
The present administration is said to be disturbed and worried over the quality of the job done by the contractors and may invite the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to wade into the matter if their explanations are found to be displeasing and untenable.
It was learned that N6 billion was injected to complete the project from Oyo to Ogbomoso (section 11).
Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Senator Kabiru Gaya, disclosed at the flagging off of the project that the upper chamber had invited the contractors to come and explain why the Ibadan/Oyo road was in such a
deplorable state.
This was also confirmed by the Federal Controller of works, Mr. Anya Omorekpe, who represented the Minister of Works, Housing and Power, Mr. Babatunde Fashola.
Omorekpe said that the Federal Government would force contractors handling the project to do a quality work, adding that government would ensure that Nigerians have value for their money.
