In recent times, the home is not what it should be, with regards to God’s standard for Christians home. A lot of homes are in shamble, with husband and the wife going in different directions on issues relating to the family.
Many wayward and morally disgruntled children are products of the family, these days. Tragically, in today’s society, poor value is placed on the family, and this seems an unimportant obligation to some.
In the most extreme cases, where relationships in the homes are not well managed, breakdown of the homes arises, leading to divorces cases.
What is more, our societal continual focus on material wealth has been a key factor influencing many women in becoming “freed” from their status as homemakers.
The rising need to be a financial support to the husband and the need to be a career woman, has made many women to accept jobs in the corporate world.
For lots of women, who cannot manage both the home front and the Job without one affecting the other, this decision has denied many of a happy home.
Addressing members of the Traditional Wedding Consultants Association of Nigeria who paid him a courtesy visit in his palace in Oyo town, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111, said despite these challenges women have continued to display great dynamism.
He added that they have displayed ingenuity and creativity in finding alternative to any situation, individually at the household level, and collectively at the social level, thereby creating conducive atmosphere for democracy and democratic governance to thrive.
“As women, they constitute a dynamic breeding ground within the framework of any perspective for change. Considering women’s indispensable roles in the society as mothers, custodians, and shapers of the society, In Nigeria, women population is presently put at about 55million, which is significant, considering the total population of about 140 million. It is indisputable that empowering women is empowering the nation, as they are indispensable group in the development of any nation’’.
‘’ There is hardly any culture, East or West, where women are not “home builders”.  As home builders, they are therefore “nation builders”.
The royal father noted that besides the five sensory organs given to every human being by God, women are also endowed with distinct ability, which is the power of adaptability to perceive and prevent their families from danger.
‘’Wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands.  To build a happy home successfully, a woman have a major role to play and it is also of great importance to know that it takes wisdom to build a happy home. A woman is expected to love her husband and to love her children. In building a happy home, a woman should display a high level of love to her husband and children. By this, I mean unconditional love. A woman should not to show love to her husband mainly because of what she is getting from him or based on the facts that things are rosy. Likewise a woman must be available to her husband and should not deny him of his rights”.
Oba Adeyemi pointed out that while it is most clear today due to many factors, that women have comparable qualities and strengths as men, God has ordained that wives should submit to their husbands.
‘’The woman has the role of being a wife and a mother, rearing godly children, and teaching her children in Godly ways. It is their responsibility to teach and train the children—both boys and girls. Indeed, a good wife is meant to be a trusted confidant and a valuable counsellor to her husband. God expects us to be trusted helpers and wise counselors’’.
Alaafin further warned, ‘’even if you [women] are the ones paying all the bills, when you are being provoked, control your tongue.  You cannot sell members of your household cheaply, and still expect to buy back at a high price with gain. God expects us to be trusted helpers and wise counselors’’.
The Titan of Yoruba kingdom however called in the three tiers of government to continue to provide enabling environment for women, as well as intensifies awareness campaigns among the rural dwellers for meaningful participation in the development process.
This, he said, will go a long way in ensuring a bright and stable future.
While also advocating passion for women through various empowerments and assistance to their socio-economic status, Oba Adeyemi stressed that that ‘’any activity that can improve women economic power should not only be encouraged, but be supported, in order to enable women develop high-esteem and more confidence in one another through exhibiting their God given potentials for good’’.
