Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has charged public office holders in the state to declare their assets in line with the provisions of the Code of Conduct.
Al-Makura gave the directive on Monday when he met with the Chairman, Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr. Sam Saba, at the Government House in Lafia.
He also directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to issue a circular to the entire ministries mandating them to declare their assets
According to him, his administration places premium on transparency, accountability and prudence in order to curb corruption in public service.
The governor assured the bureau of the readiness of his administration to synergise with it to ensure that all public servants in the state declared their assets.
He noted that his government had already sent a fiscal responsibility bill to the state House of Assembly for the purpose of engendering accountability amongst public servants and in keeping with its zero-tolerance for corruption .
Earlier, the Chairman of the bureau had appealed to the governor to partner with the organisation in the fight against corruption.
He said that it was necessary for public servants in the state to comply with the constitutional provision on asset declaration.
Saba said the bureau would soon organise an enlightenment seminar on how to go about asset declaration.
He urged the state government to sponsor some of its principal staff, who would in turn educate other staff members on the procedure.
