Akosa begins final journey Feb 19

The family of late Austin Akosa (Suzy), whose death occurred on January 16, 2016, is to hold wake/service of songs on February 19, 2016 at the Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN) secretariat at the National Stadium Complex, Surulere, Lagos.
The event has been scheduled to start at 2 p.m. with Special Reception of friends and well-wishers.
Service of Songs in memory of the departed will be held inside the SWAN Hall at the same venue by 6 p.m. prompt.
The event is being jointly organised by the Akosa family and SWAN in honour of Akosa, an avowed believer in the cause of the sporting press, to which he was an honorary member.
Late Akosa was a former Spokesman of the West African Football Union (WAFU).
He was born in 1941.
Akosa retired from the National Sports Commission (NSC), where he had served on many National Federations as organising secretary, including the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) during the Nigeria/Biafra Civil War.
He also served in the Nigeria Lawn Tennis Association (NLTA) in 1974.
Akosa was at one time on the board of the Nigeria Football Association in his capacity as President of the Nigeria Coaches Association.
He served as match FIFA/CAF Match commissioner in top soccer engagements across the African continent.

Akosa also served on many occasions as MTN Street Football Administrator.

There will be funeral rites for the departed on February 25, 2016 at the family compound at 19 Ozomagala Street, Onitsha and thereafter interred at his ancestral home at Ogbeoza Quarters, Inland Town, Onitsha.

Akosa was survived by five children and siblings.
