Through the just concluded elections, the old girls of Abeokuta Girls Grammar School, Abeokuta, clearly spoke with one voice – no debate, no division.
The alumni under the aegis of Abeokuta Girls Grammar School Old Girls Association (AGGSOGA), returned the President, Mrs Olusolape Ajibola, unopposed.
For Ajibola, who was elected President on July 3, 2022, alongside other exco members, a kind of legacy was entrenched – the legacy of service that earns trust.
“One good term deserves another” isn’t just a slogan. It’s what happens when leadership is steady, vision is clear, and the old girls know their president is capable.
Ajibola didn’t campaign against anyone. She campaigned with results. And AGGSOGA answered: We feel your impact. Lead us again.
Other elected Global officers include: Abimbola Oshikoya, Vice President, General Secretary, Bolaji Ololade, Assistant General Secretary, Grace Majoyegbe, Treasurer, Joy Oji, Welfare Officer, Olukemi Kalejaye, Social Secretary, Laide Omosebi, Assistant Social Secretary, Ajoke Aregbesola, Publicity Secretary, Dupe Olaoye-Osinkolu and Internal Auditor, Aderayo Fatoki.
Under the outgoing administration, AGGS saw major transformation through unity and commitment.
Major repairs and upgrades were carried out across the school — classrooms, facilities, and key structures were restored to serve students better.
Listing the accomplishments, Ajibola said:
“*Infrastructure & Student Support*
Through God’s grace and the generosity of old girls and partners, we delivered over 40 major projects. Key highlights include:
●Solar-powered computer lab for Junior School by NCC
●World Bank STEM labs for Chemistry, Physics, Biology & Maths
● Overhaul of boarding facilities with a new borehole
●new classrooms built, painted and equipped by Ogun State Government
●Restoration of AGGS to the Anglican Communion
●Feeding of 3,000+ students and teachers during the 70th Anniversary
●WASSCE fees paid for 40 SSS3 students, plus scholarships and cash prizes
●Recovery of 1 hectare of encroached school land
●Registration of Global AGGSOGA with CAC Nigeria.
Under her leadership, AGGSOGA held a week-long befitting 70th Anniversary of the alma mater.
On *Sustainable Impact* she said:
“We moved from quick fixes to long-term solutions. From labs to libraries, boreholes to scholarships, the focus was on projects that will serve generations after us”.
The Ajibola-led team had massive challenges but swiftly moved to surmount all of them, including the encroachment of about one hectare of AGGS’ land by an influential neighbour who deliberately bulldozed the fence at the back of the school to get to the land. The land was returned to the school through the Ogun State Government’s intervention.
“We faced security breaches, land encroachment, and internal team capacity challenges. By God’s grace and swift government intervention, every issue was addressed – security was restored, the land was recovered, and the association remained standing. The ship of AGGSOGA was thoroughly rocked, but God made it impossible to capsize.”
On *Unity & Collaboration*, Ajibola said Old divisions were set aside. Old girls, stakeholders, and friends of the school came together for the first time in years to support AGGS selflessly.
This led to sustainable growth as
the focus shifted from quick fixes to long-term solutions that will keep benefiting the school for years to come.
*Bottom line?* What was broken is being rebuilt. What was divided is now united. And AGGS is on a stronger path forward.
President Ajibola also thought of digital upgrading of AGGSOGA’s electoral processes from analog to virtual to accomodate all members across the globe. This expands the scope of participation, improves transparency and ensures accountability.
The just concluded first exercise was very peaceful and a huge success.
