Two goals from Ademola Lookman, one in each half, gave the Super Eagles a 2-0 win over Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Saturday night.
With the victory, the Super Eagles progressed into the quarter-finals at the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.
They will face their Angolan counterparts.

Lookman

Lookman, the Atalanta forward, opened scoring for Nigeria in the 36th minute after Victor Osimhen forced Oumar Gonzalez into a mistake and then teed up Lookman to fire past goalkeeper, Fabrice Ondoa.

Lookman then sealed the win in the 90th minute after one of the game’s best moves, volleying home Calvin Bassey’s cut-back to make it 2-0 to the three-time African champions.

Despite introducing their captain, Vincent Aboubakar, late on for his first appearance after a muscle injury sustained on the eve of the finals, Cameroon failed to register a single shot on target.

Super Eagles, with the victory, will meet Angola, who defeated Namibia 3-0 earlier, in the last eight, also at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium.
