Super Eagles, on Tuesday, defeated Uganda 3-1 in the final Group C match of the 35th African Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the Complexe Sportif de Fes, Morocco,
finishing top of the group with maximum points.
With the result, Nigeria finished Group C with nine points from three matches, maintaining a 100 per cent record.
The Super Eagles, who had already secured qualification for the round of 16 before kickoff, dominated the final group match to extend their winning run to three games.

Paul Onuachu opened the scoring for Nigeria in the first half. Uganda’s hopes suffered a major blow early in the second half when goalkeeper Salim Magoola was sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area to deny Victor Osimhen a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Nigeria took full advantage of their numerical superiority, with Raphael Onyedika scoring twice in quick succession to put the match beyond Uganda’s reach. Rogers Mato pulled one back for Uganda late in the game, but it proved to be only a consolation goal.

With the result, Nigeria finished Group C with nine points from three matches, maintaining a 100 percent record. Tunisia placed second with four points, while Tanzania, who finished third, advanced as one of the best four third-placed teams. Uganda ended the group bottom and were eliminated from the tournament.

Nigeria now head into the knockout stage as one of the form teams of AFCON 2025, while Uganda’s campaign comes to an end at the group stage.
