Abia Govt pays workers’ Dec salaries

In fulfilment of the pledge of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State that civil servants in the state will receive their December, 2015 salaries before the Christmas festivities, the Abia State Government has transferred the salaries of all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to their respective paying banks for onward disbursement to workers that bank with them.
Disclosing this at his office in Umuahia, Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Obinna Oriaku, noted that the Abia State Ministry of Finance had given a directive to all banks to ensure that all the workers receive their salaries latest by Wednesday, December 23, 2015.
As for Local Government workers, he gave the assurance that as soon as the Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting for the month is held within the week, all workers who are usually paid from Local Government Allocations will receive their December salaries.
Oriaku also disclosed that all the contractors handling road projects in Abia State have received massive payments to ensure that they increase the tempo of their construction works to enable appreciable progress to be made during this dry season.
In the same vein, Ikpeazu has approved the release of funds to Transition Committee Chairmen of all the Local Governments in the South-East state to enable them grade key rural roads in their areas to ease anticipated heavy vehicular movement during the yuletide.
Oriaku disclosed the determination of his office to deliver on Ikpeazu’s instruction to prudently and creatively manage the funds available to Abia State while taking steps to increase the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to augment the dwindling allocations from federal allocations occasioned by low oil prices and other macro-economic factors.
