The wife of Dr. Philip Ataga, kidnapped in Kaduna with their two daughters, has been killed.
The two daughters are still with the kidnappers.
Dr Baton B. Ayuba, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Kaduna State, revealed this in a statement on Saturday.
The statement reads: “NMA Kaduna regrets to announce the gruesome murder of the wife of our colleague, Dr Philip Ataga, who was kidnapped one week ago alongside her two daughters, who are still in the captivity of the kidnappers.
“She was murdered while negotiations were still going on. May her soul rest in peace.
“Let’s kindly pray for the safe release of the daughters”.
Also, the abducted seminarian, Nnadi Michael, was shot dead.
Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, in a statement, said: “My dear brethren, with a very heavy heart, I wish to inform you that our dear son, Nnadi Michael, was murdered by the bandits on a date we cannot confirm. He and the wife of a doctor were arbitrarily separated from the group and killed. The Rector identified the corpse this afternoon. The Lord knows best. Let’s remain strong and pray for the repose of his soul. I had to delay this announcement until Mama got back from the market. We have broken the news to her and I will be with her. Please let us be calm. May God give him eternal rest”.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Joel Usman, Registrar of
Good Shepherd Major Seminary, Kaduna, also confirmed the sad development in a statement.
It reads: “This is to inform all our friends and well wishers that the remaining abducted Seminarian has been
found dead. Thank you very much for your prayerful support. Let us keep praying for Nigeria in Great Distress. Please let us remain faithful in the Risen Lord. May the soul of our Brother Nnadi Michael and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace with the Lord. Amen”.
