Prof Benjamin Ozumba, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, has announced that 85 out of 13, 554 students that graduated on Friday from the university bagged First Class Honours.
Ozumba made this known in Nsukka during the university’s 45th convocation ceremony.
He also said 3,040 made Second Class Honours Upper Division, 7, 266 came out with Second Class, Lower, 2, 237 bagged Third Class, 256 got Pass while 469 unclassified and 120 obtained Diploma in certificate Courses.
“It is heartwarming to announce that 85 graduates bagged first class during the 45th UNN award of first degree.
“The 13,554 students that are graduating today have been found worthy in learning and character by the university.
“I salute the university management, staff and parents in their various roles toward the successful graduation of these students today,” he said.
He said that as result of open door policy of his administration, there had been cordial relationship between the management staff and students’ union government.
“As a result of the cordial relationship, there is peace in all areas of the university’s academic and administration sectors,” he said.
The Vice-chancellor said his administration had embarked on projects that would improve learning as well as enhance the welfare of staff and students.
‘Recently, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) had given the university a dedicated feeder/grid to ensure adequate supply of electricity in the university.
“The university is currently collaborating with Israeli experts for the establishment of a modern confectionery company in alliance with some reputable organisations in the country, ‘he said
Ozumba urged the graduates to be good ambassadors of the university so as not to bring anything that would dent the image of the institution.
In a remark, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of UNN governing council, Mr Emmanuel Ukala commended the VC and members of the Governing Council for the achievements the university recorded.
“I commend the governing council, management, members of staff, students and all stakeholders in these modest achievements.
“The council is happy that ranking of UNN both in Africa and Nigeria had tremendously improved,’ he said.
Nwaife Jessica, a graduate of Accountancy and Chinedu Asadu of Mass Communication thanked God who made their graduation possible.
“I thank God for his uncommon love on me and for providing for my parents,” Asadu said.
“Today is one of the best days of my life, I lacked words to describe my happiness,” Nwaife said.
Samuel Mbah of the Department of Banking and Finance was announced by the VC as the best graduating student of the year.
