Eighty years ago (April 12, 1945), the 32nd President of the United States (U.S.), Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR), died in office.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

The 63-year-old lawyer/politician was born on January 30, 1882. He was the longest-serving U.S. president – the only one to have served more than two terms.
FDR was elected four times – 1932, 1936, 1940 and 1944.
John Nance Garner (1933–1941), Henry Agard Wallace (1941–1945) and Harry S. Truman
(1945) served as Vice-Presidents during his tenure.
Truman succeeded him as the 33rd President.
